About Paso del Condor

Paso del Condor is multi media installation and online
location by artist Francisco Letelier.

 The project examines a collaborative plan by US backed dictatorships in Latin America in the 70's and 80's to silence 'enemies.'

"Operation Condor" is often spoken about in terms of those military regimes yet the roots of the phenomena extend back to the end of WW2. The violent era of the dictatorships left behind a set of social and economic policies that created wealth for the few and increased social inequalities.

Agribusiness, mining, lumber and extraction industries have increased the severity of climate change in particular for the poor.

In 2019 popular insurrections and demonstrations calling for new laws and constitutional change broke out throughout Latin American as citizens endured brutal army and police repression.

Paso del Condor re-claims ways of telling our collective stories and memories. Contributions and comments are welcome and encouraged along with links to content concerning human rights and environmental struggles throughout the Americas.
